ABOUT US

Mississippi Basketball Association (MBA) has existed since 2002. CEO Omhar Carter founded it with the purpose of opening unimaginable doors to underprivileged at risked youth. The leadership of the MBA consists of men and women from varying lifestyles and disciplines who have dedicated themselves to the development of Mississippi youth. Currently with more than 125 youth, ages 8-18, the MBA is seeking to grow into Mississippi’s premiere mentorship, academic, and athletic youth organization. By helping to ensure that all MBA participants have an opportunity to attend college and represent the state of Mississippi well. MBA is a family oriented organization that extends its reach far beyond each child deep into the heart of each individual family to form a solid foundation for our youth to build their lives on. M.A.P IT OUT (Monitoring Academic Progress) is MBA’s academic program it offers numerous academic, life, and health enrichment programs. M.A.P IT OUT provides ACT/SAT/MCT preparation workshops, tutoring, summer reading assistance and enrichment, and more to provide an academic support system to our youth to ensure their academic success. We are proud to say we are privileged to be a part of an increasing number of high school graduations, as well as college orientations and graduations each year. Nutritional and life skills education is also provided through camps, classes, and programs with guest speakers. Participants are introduced to the benefits of diet and exercise through health and nutritional education classes provided throughout the year. MBA also offers cheerleading, dance team, and mentorship program opportunities for girls.

MBA Hoops is our youth athletic program based in Jackson, MS. MBA Hoops participates in local, regional, and national basketball tournaments including Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) programmed events. MBA trains players from age seventeen and under. MBA affords athletes the opportunity to travel and participate in athletic events in cities they may have otherwise never visited. While traveling and participating in these athletic events, it also provides an opportunity for our youth to display their athletic skills and talents for college scouts.

MBA Hoops is in its fifth year of existence and has already become the top program in the state of Mississippi, as well as one of the top programs in the nation. MBA has placed over 275 kids in various colleges including Divisions I, II, III, NAIA, and Jr. Colleges nationwide. MBA has been invaluable in providing opportunities to receive college scholarships to numerous colleges and universities all over the state such as Trey Johnson (guard and number one scorer in the nation) at Jackson State University, Jeremy Wise (point guard, newcomer and freshman of the year) at University of Southern Mississippi, and Charles Rhodes (power forward) at Mississippi State University. In addition, a number of our players have gone on to pursue lucrative careers in the NBA such as Monta Ellis (point guard and second leading scorer on the team) for Golden State Warriors and Justin Reed (participants forward) Minnesota Timberwolves.

Our collegiate and professional MBA give back to the organization by hosting camps, game invitations, and much more. They act as counselors and coaches for summer camps (Global Elite Camp, Mississippi NBA Alumni Celebrity Camp). They participate as guest speakers in awards programs honoring our players’ achievements. They speak with younger athletes about their experiences at college and/or professional levels during mentorship programs. Younger players attend basketball games by invitation of MBA alumni. They get a courtside view of what they can accomplish.

MBA players are personally invited to national tournaments and events such as: Nike Hoop Jamboree(St. Louis, MO),Tim Miller’s U.S Elite Camp(Texas), Reebok All-American, Kentucky Hoop Fest(KY), Real Deal on the Hill(Arkansas),and LeBron James Nike Camp). Our nationally ranked players’ attendance is in high demand. Upcoming team events include: Kentucky Hoop Fest (KY), Next Level Ballers (Dallas, TX), Battle of the Bluff (Memphis), Super Showcase (Orlando, FL), AAU Nationals, and many more.

MBA plans to continue to provide these opportunities to our youth for years to come. Our organization is comprised of hardworking individuals who believe the achievements in life are not made by what you do for yourself but by what you do for others. MBA will continue to sacrifice and give to help our youth reach their full potential and become productive assets to the communities in which they live.
